This is the bimonthly meeting of the Middle Smithfield Township Board of Supervisors.  Bimonthly meetings of the Board of Supervisors take place on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7pm, unless otherwise indicated.

This meeting will also be a public hearing for a proposed ordinance.  See below:

Notice is hereby given that the Middle Smithfield Township Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on November 16, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. and consider for possible adoption and may adopt an Ordinance, of which this notice is a summary, to be added to Chapter 176 of the Middle Smithfield Township Code of Ordinances, establishing and adopting a Local Services Tax that will authorize the collection and manner of collection of a Local Services Tax in the amount of Fifty-Two Dollars ($52.00) annually for the purpose of providing revenue for emergency services, road maintenance and construction and reductions and relief to property taxes.  The Local Services Tax Ordinance provides for exemptions to said tax and establishes penalties for violations in accordance with Pennsylvania Law.  The Local Services Tax will be levied on each adult resident and nonresident employed and/or engaged in an occupation within the Township.  The total revenue from the tax is unknown at this time.  The Local Services Tax will replace and the Ordinance will repeal the Occupational Privilege Tax within the Township.  The title of the Ordinance is as follows:

AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MIDDLE SMITHFIELD, MONROE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, ADOPTING BY ORDINANCE A LOCAL SERVICES TAX TO BE ADDED TO CHAPTER 176 OF THE MIDDLE SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP CODE OF ORDINANCES, REPLACING AND REPEALING THE OCCUPATIONAL PRIVILEGE TAX AND AUTHORIZING THE COLLECTION OF THE LOCAL SERVICES TAX AND PROVIDING FOR EXEMPTIONS TO SAID TAX IN ACCORDANCE WITH PENNSYLVANIA STATE LAW.

The Board of Supervisors will hold the public hearing to consider the Ordinance and thereafter may adopt the Ordinance at its meeting on November 16, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Middle Smithfield Township municipal building at 147 Municipal Drive, East Stroudsburg, PA 18302.  Copies of the full text of the ordinance are available at the Township office, the Monroe County Law Library, and the office of this newspaper during normal business hours.  All interested parties are invited to attend.
