Updated 9/21/2023:
Sadly, the forecast for Saturday is not good, so we must cancel our litter cleanup.
But you can still help! Come by the office Saturday 9/23 from 8am to 10am or any weekday between 8am and 4pm and you can pick up litter cleanup supplies and get an area. Then you can clean up litter at your convenience and we will pick up the bags when you are done.
Call or email for more information: 570-223-8920 x119 or send us an email.

Who’s ready to clean some roads?
On Saturday September 23, please join Township Supervisors, Parks & Recreation, Litter & Beautification, Adopt a Road, and the Public Works Department to help clean up our Township’s Roads. Volunteers for this important program are always welcome and can contact Chris Rain at 570-223-8920, x119. Supplies including bags, pickers, gloves and safety vests are all provided by the township.

How this works: Volunteers sign in at the Township building by 8am on Saturday September 23 to get supplies, get split into groups, and depart to various locations throughout the Township to beautify Middle Smithfield. Volunteers attending the cleanup on September 23 will receive breakfast at sign in. The Township volunteers will focus on our “Main Street” Route 209 and other roads throughout the Township. Middle Smithfield Township will provide reflective vests, road crew signs, and other supplies as needed.
Volunteers are also welcome to clean up on any day they want to if they can’t make the event on September 23. They can also choose their own area, or have one assigned to them. Middle Smithfield Township will provide bags, pickers, gloves, safety vests, and other supplies as needed and will collect the bags when volunteers are done.
“We hope to see you on the 23rd, but any day that works for you, works for us,” said event coordinator Chris Rain. “By allowing volunteers to clean up on their own, we have found that more people are able to participate and cover more area. Anyone who wants to help out, but isn’t available on clean-up day on the 23rd, can still participate.”
Once again, Middle Smithfield Township is excited to have 1000 Feet of Street serve as the model for Pick Up the Poconos Day, a Monroe County-wide litter cleanup program. The Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau is hosting the event on September 23 and organizing cleanups in townships throughout the area. Volunteers in Middle Smithfield can sign up with Pick Up the Poconos, or directly with Middle Smithfield Township. For more information on Pick Up The Poconos, visit their website.
This spring, close to 100 volunteers with 1000 Feet of Street and our Adopt a Road program cleaned 46 miles of roadside (or about 26 miles of road, both sides) along Rt 209, Wooddale Road, Coolbaugh Road, Sellersville Drive, Pocono Wild Haven Estates, among others and filled hundreds of bags of trash. Thank you to all of our Spring 2023 1000 Feet of Street and Adopt a Road volunteers! We hope that our Fall 2023 event will be even more successful.
Middle Smithfield Township would like to thank our 2023 Platinum Parks Sponsor, Sheeley Insurance, for helping to make this event possible.
