Zoning & Building

The Zoning Officer shall be appointed by the Board of Supervisors and shall meet qualifications established by the municipality and shall be able to demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the municipality, a working knowledge of municipal zoning regulations. The Board of Supervisors may designate other Township staff persons to serve as Assistant Zoning Officer(s) who shall also meet the qualifications established by the municipality and shall be able to demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the municipality, a working knowledge of municipal zoning.

In accordance with the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code the governing body may enact, amend and repeal zoning ordinances to implement comprehensive plans and to accomplish any of the purposes thereof.

Zoning Hearing Board

In accordance with the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code and Division 83 of the Middle Smithfield Township Zoning Ordinance the Township Board of Supervisors has created a Zoning Hearing Board consisting of five members, appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
